Royal scoop – all down to contacts

How important is it for journalists to keep a good contacts book – and to keep in touch with important contacts? The man who scooped the world on the royal engagement says it’s crucial.

Speaking on Radio 4’s Media Show, ITN’s Political Editor Tom Bradley revealed that he got the exclusive interview with William and Kate because he always keeps his contacts warm.

Though he’s now on the political beat, he was a royal correspondent in the days when William and Harry were beginning to talk to the media. He’s kept in touch with them ever since – as he does with all his contacts.

Also on the programme, Simon Kellner, editor of the Independent explained why they were the only national paper not to put the royal engagement on the front page.
